Auctions are getting more and more popular, a lot which has to do with the economy. People are trying to sell the things that they don't really need.
A lot of people think in order to be an auctioneer they just have to talk fast. This is a big misconception. I'm a North Carolina licensed auctioneer and didn't realize how involved it was until I signed up for the class down at Stanly Community College. We had to pass a three hour exam to pass the class which covered auction law, rules and regulations, the business side of auctioning, how to do "ring man" which is the person that watches for bids for the auctioneer, and a TON of math.
My story idea is let a handful of us that graduated, and went and took the 3 hour state exam in Fuquay Varina, N.C. (near Raleigh, N.C.), and paid the $250 for license come on FNR and tell about auctioneering, call some bids, show how we dress, act, share a brief history of auctioneering (including why we are called "colonel" after we become auctioneers (it goes back to the civil war) Invite us, and we'll come! This is also an opportunity for people to see if they'd like to be involved in the auction business as a career. Please consider this as a story idea. Wilson could do a remote at our auction barn in Mineral Springs, N.C. near Waxhaw, N.C., or we'll come to the station.
